Crafting Bluebird Canister

SECOND PAINTING
Corner load a small shader brush with Dark Blue and shade the blue area of the top bird. Place this shading on the head just above the beak, at the back of the neck, and along each wiped-out feather. Shade the breast with short choppy strokes of Yellow Red, placing the strokes under the wing and along the edge of the body. Darken the throat with the same color.
Shade the other bird in the same way.
Deepen the color on the flower petals and centers if necessary.
Model and shade the leaves with Autumn Green, being sure to keep the foremost ones light in color for added dimension.
Shade along the edges of the branch with Rich Brown.
Fire the china to cone 017 (1377°F-747°C), then sand and wipe it as before.
THIRD PAINTING
Using a detail brush, paint a tiny triangle shape of Black in front and in back of the top bird’s eye. Also outline some of the feathers with sketchy lines of Black.
Detail the other bird in the same way, adding its feet with short, curved strokes of Rich Brown.
Use the detail brush and either American Beauty or Ruby to lightly sketch an outline of the flower petals and to add some lines radiating from flower centers. Add some tiny dots of Dark Yellow Brown around each flower center. Place a tiny triangle of Black Green between the flower petals where they join the centers as “spaces” through which the sepals’ color can be seen.
Outline some of the main leaves with sketchy lines of Black Green and use the same color to add some center and side veins.
Fire the china.
